About

I am Caressa Betist, a Dutch artist based in The Hague, the Netherlands. My practices consists of performance and participatory work, where the focus lays on the relationship between the three pillars of art; the artis, the art and the audience. I constantly aim to construct scenarios where the lines become vaguer as the work unfolds through time, space and thought.

Topics that continue to run through my work are power-identity, repetition, choice and chance, us-them. My interest in these topics come from personal encounters and experiences. They are therefore fuelled by personal connotations

What fascinates and interests me about performance and participatory art is the direct linkage to the body as a tool for communication and image-making. One cannot escape their own being and yet there is a sense of freedom in the allowance of ’the act of performing or participating’
